The original deck had reached the end of its service life — grey, soft in places, and past the point where repairs made sense. Rather than patch it, we took it back to the ground and rebuilt: new framing, a multi-level pressure-treated deck, black aluminum balusters, a privacy screen, and a custom pergola over the upper landing.

How it came together

Before

Weathered boards, dated railings, and a structure that had done its time. The homeowners were not looking for a repair — they wanted the outdoor room the space could actually support.

Demolition and new framing

The old structure came down and new framing went in over the pad. Getting the framing square and properly supported is what lets the finished deck feel solid underfoot rather than springy.

Multi-level pressure-treated decking, black aluminum balusters that keep sightlines open, a privacy screen where it was needed, and a pergola framed to handle Maritime wind and snow load rather than just look the part.
